 <p>10:00am- 12:00pm: “The Future of Work”<br />\nDale Lehman\, Professor o
 f Economics (Facilitator)\, Alaska Pacific University<br />\nNeal Fried\,
Economist\, Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development<br />\nBi
 ll Popp\, President &amp\; CEO\, AEDC<br />\nPatty Hickok\, Director of HR
Process Improvement\, NANA Development Corporation</p>\n<p>Recent economi
c events (the Financial Meltdown\, the Great Recession\, the Eurozone cris
is) have stirred people’s thinking about the future economy and how it wil
 l serve people’s needs to make a living\, have a fulfilling life\, and cre
ate opportunities for future generations. Stagnating wages for the middle
class is being seen as more than a transient phenomenon. The rise of the w
ealthy class\, combined with growing globalization\, is causing people to
reexamine their choices of education and career. This seminar is focused o
n the emerging question: what is the future of work?</p>\n<p>Central theme
s include impact of technology advances on jobs\, income inequality\, and
the future world prosperity. The panel will explore these issues and sugge
st whether job\, career\, and education need to be approached differently
than in the past. No answers are expected\, but meaningful questions can b
e raised. Should/Can the government improve the lot of the working class?
Is government the answer or the problem? How does debt (personal and natio
 nal) influence our future prospects?</p>\n<p>12:-00- 1:00pm: Lunch &amp\;
 Q&amp\;A with presenters and participants</p>\n<p>1:00-3:00pm: “2nd Genera
tion Leadership in Alaska Native Corporations—Our Future”<br />\nJason Met
 rokin\, President &amp\; CE0\, Bristol Bay Native Corp<br />\nGail Schuber
 t\, President &amp\; CEO\, Bering Strait Regional Corporation<br />\nSheri
  Buretta\, Chairman of the Board\, Chugach Alaska Corporation<br />\nJeff
 Kinneeveauk\, President &amp\; CEO\, ASRC Energy Services<br />\nAndrew Gu
 y\, CEO &amp\; President\, Calista Corporation</p>\n<p>As Alaska Native Co
rporations grow and promote workforce development in the State of Alaska\,
many questions arise for a “second generation” of leaders. What are the c
hallenges and opportunities facing ANCs today\, and what educational skill
s are needed for shareholders to fill the jobs being created? How should A
laska Native college students prepare to be the next generation of leaders
? What does the best possible future for Alaska Native people look like? H
ow can APU help Native people flourish in the next 10 years? 20 years? 50
years? What are the best ways of taking new technologies—whether they be a
lternative energy\, high tech fabrics\, or green building strategies—to re
build our villages so they are once again economically viable for those wh
o wish to remain in those communities? Alaska Native traditional ways have
a lot to teach us about living a meaningful life. In a technologically dr
iven world where communication is instant but isolation is rampant\, what
insights from Native traditional ways could help all Alaskans live meaning
 ful lives?</p>
