APU Graduate Named 2009 Alaska Distinguished Principal 
 
Roger LeBlanc, principal of Fairview  Elementary School, was named the 2009 Alaska Distinguished Principal today by the Alaska Association of Elementary School Principals.

Mr. LeBlanc earned a Master of Arts in Teaching from APU in 1994, and began his ASD career in 1995 working as a teacher at Wonder Park and Chester Valley elementary schools before becoming principal of Mountain  View Elementary School in 2001 and later principal of Fairview in 2008.

 AAESP noted that Mr. LeBlanc has had several significant accomplishments in his career as principal. His school was selected as one of two Title I Distinguished Schools in Alaska for the 2007-08 school year. He led Mountain  View Elementary School to seven consecutive years of academic improvement with three consecutive years of Adequate Yearly Progress under the No Child Left Behind Act. Student teams also received four consecutive first place awards in statewide Title I Math Derby competitions. Mr. LeBlanc has been recognized numerous times for designing and implementing myriad community support programs for non-English speaking parents and community members, and for being a positive change agent for the Mountain View community.
