RANA Distance Education Program

Distance Education @ APU
RANA leads the way in distance education for Alaska.

Gone are the days of distance education which involved the one-way communication of talking heads on TV or video. Also, gone are the monotonous correspondence courses that required endless mailings to phantom instructors. With state of the art technology, we can now reach into your home and make online education interactive and responsive.

RANA is a web-based distance learning program, with synchronous and asynchronous components.

The synchronous components include the required on-campus residency at the start of each semester and the weekly online chats for each course. These real-time components connect students to one another and to the course content.

The asynchronous components are everything else done according to the student's own schedule - discussion board postings, emails, assignments, readings, and online activities - all of which create a virtual classroom.

Our combination of synchronous and asynchronous components has led to the success of RANA and its students. While the program is high tech, it is also high touch. The face-to-face residency and weekly chat keep students on track - the online delivery allows for individual pacing.
