Students are encouraged to apply for scholarship and grant opportunities as they occur.
Such opportunities may only apply at the undergraduate or graduate levels, in the case of several National Science Foundation funded programs (http://www.nsf.gov/ ), or as in the case of the annual rounds of Pollock Conservation Cooperative Fund grants, a within-Department source which annually funds a number of research projects of students in the Department, at all student levels.
Annual, in-house scholarships are awarded to outstanding students within the suite of Environmental Science majors.
As well, past students have received awards from a variety of private and government programs. Information (scope, eligibility, deadlines) is made available as frequently as opportunities arise, and faculty are very alert to disseminating such information. Our faculty encourage students to write grants and apply for scholarships, as well as assisting with editing, giving other useful coaching, and providing feedback. Indeed, such practice is part of the scientific professions and should be considered part of a student’s education, though it may not appear on an official transcript.
