“Thoughts on APU Outdoor Studies”
By Paul Twardock—September, 2008
There is no one degree for the outdoor profession, it is too multi dimensional. Thus OS provides an opportunity for students to discover the possibilities, find a passion, and then equip themselves to follow their passion.
The outdoor professional needs to be the renaissance person: skilled in the outdoors, knowledgeable about nature, understanding of culture and history, versed in psychology, and appreciates the arts.
Otherwise he or she needs to be a skilled wilderness traveler, a first responder, a woodsman, a naturalist, a guide, an educator, a counselor, a businessman, a historian, and an artist.
