APU Difference
About the Business Administration Degrees and Certificates
Today's complex interconnected work environments demand professionals with a comprehensive knowledge of modern business needs. The administration and management of organizations requires a broad range of skills and abilities. True leaders are in short supply at all levels of most enterprises. Meeting these needs requires a different approach to education.
Our programs offer different things for different students:
  • Proven Quality

We believe that a college degree is earned, not awarded. As an accredited university, our graduation standards exceed those of many other institutions. You will be taught by faculty members who are scholar practitioners in the fields of accounting, business administration and management, health services administration, and human services. APU is accredited by the Commission on Institutions of Higher Education of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.

  • Small Classes

Your classroom learning experiences reflect APU’s active learning philosophy: independent research, peer-group learning, projects, writing, and reflection. Active learning classes are hands-on where you learn by doing. From the accelerated delivery to the emphasis on collaborative learning, the entire program is dedicated to increasing your productivity.

  • Life-Friendly Schedules

Traditional undergraduates can take their courses during the day with the rest of the on-campus community. For adult learners our course schedules meet the needs of most in one of two formats: DCP or MBA. The DCP student accesses our unique, seven-week modules with courses that meet only one evening per week (normally 6-9:50 p.m.). Degree Completion programs offer busy, working adults the opportunity to come on campus for classes or take distance classes. Full-time status requires taking only two classes at a time. If part-time status works better for you, take only one class at a time. For MBA students we offer night time classes in a range of time formats: 15 week semesters (once a week), 11 week sessions (once a week, slightly longer class meeting) and 4 week blocks (once or twice a week depending upon credit level). MBA students also have the option to take up to four of their classes in a compressed two week format in Austria at Danube University Krems (DUK). Two classes are offered on the APU campus in a similar format and are attended by our European students from DUK.

  • On-Campus Experiences

If you are a traditional undergraduate just starting college (usually 17-22 years old) you can participate in the full range of campus life: day time classes, student activities, campus living and a community of learners. Consider a minor in education, psychology, liberal studies, outdoor studies or environmental sciences while you develop your business skills.

Whether you are a daytime, nighttime or distance learner you have access to a wide range of campus services. Take a swim in our salt water pool; climb an over-hang on our rock wall; use the Consortium Library – in person or from the comfort of your home – for research; talk to someone – in person or on the phone - at the Counseling and Wellness Center about time management; the options are many.

  • Programs for Working Adults

The accelerated Degree Completion Programs consist of courses focusing on developing competencies in each program. Whether your motivation is personal or professional, the DCP degrees offer opportunities to enhance your knowledge.

MBA students expand their professional horizons by leveraging their existing knowledge and learning from high level professional peers. Networking, sharing best practices, learning by doing all take the work in the classroom to deeper and more powerful levels. Nighttime and intensive travel options allow our students to complete their degrees while they work.

  • Transfer-Friendly

Your past experience and courses can be a part of your degree at APU.

Seeking an undergraduate degree? Although you are required to have completed 60 credits to be admitted to a DCP degree program, APU’s liberal transfer policy helps you get credit for the academic work you have completed at other institutions. If you have less than 60 credits, you might consider completing an Associate of Arts in Business Administration at APU or investigate programs through which adult students receive college credit for knowledge they have already acquired. Your life and /or work experience can translate into a total of 32 credit hours of documented experiential learning.

Seeking a Master’s degree? In most cases we can accept up to 12 businesses related graduate credits completed at other universities. That is up to one third of the credits needed for a degree. Do you all ready have an advanced degree (Masters or Doctorate)? Talk to us about our second Masters or second closely related Masters degree options.

  • Personal Attention

You will be welcomed to APU by admissions personnel and then guided through your coursework by your academic advisor. You will receive personalized advice, encouragement, and guidance to meet your academic goals.
