The Department of Counseling Psychology and Human Services supports the mission of the university by offering courses based on the active learning model, by helping students find their purpose, focus their passions, and create products that demonstrate distinct abilities and learning outcomes that are derived from an integration of liberal arts and pre-professional training.

The Department’s Philosophy is based on a positive psychology approach in that we emphasize building on assets and strengths of our students rather than overcoming deficits. Above all else we view our students as valued family members with whom we collaboratively create learning environments to achieve individually crafted goals. Faculty members have an open door policy, serve as mentors and facilitators of student learning, and are eager to provide assistance throughout the students’ academic career.
