A Master’s degree is within your reach
At Alaska Pacific, upon completion of the CO-OP degree, you have the opportunity to continue forward to attain a master’s degree.
Once you finish the CO-OP degree, you can focus on an action research project to complete the Master of Teaching degree. The MAT Program provides optimal learning, allowing you to research your own teaching practices and develop a research project with relevance to your work.
The Master of Arts in Teaching has been offered by Alaska Pacific University for over thirty years and enjoys an excellent reputation in the Anchorage School District and elsewhere. It has an outstanding placement record.
In the MAT Program, you will complete and present an action research project
You will design an action research study that focuses on a passionate educational interest. During the research process, you identify, evaluate, and critique learning and teaching practices. By practicing action research in the classroom, you apply a model of professional development and teacher inquiry that can be used to improve your own teaching. This research model also provides an opportunity to improve and better understand a particular aspect of practice by applying qualitative and quantitative research methods. You discover that learning from teaching is inherent to the teaching profession.
