Pamela Maslyk, Ph.D. Assistant Professor of Mathematics Chair, Faculty Assembly Environmental Science Department mathpam@alaskapacific.edu • A.B.D., Ph.D. Mathematics Education, University of the Incarnate Word • M.S. Mathematics, University of Alaska Fairbanks • B.A. Mathematics, Slippery Rock University
Pam is a mathematics professor with a concentration in mathematics education. She currently teaches classes that range from the algebras through differential equations and introduction to proof, but has also taught Integrated Science and Business Mathematics.
Her graduate mathematics studies were in pure mathematics with a concentration in Topological Metric Spaces. Her true interests lie in mathematics education and include using technology in the classroom, integrating science and mathematics, and distance education.
Pam received a NOVA grant from NASA which was used to redesign APU’s Integrated Science class to combine different sciences and mathematics into the course. She also received a NASA doctoral fellowship for a portion of her doctoral work. Her interest in integrating technology in the classroom has led to studies in whether mathematical based computer technology enhances student performance in the mathematics classroom and how to improve student interaction in distance mathematics courses through course management programs and synchronous communication.
Pam’s goal is to open students’ eyes to the exciting world of mathematics, to see its applications, and new uses of technology. Let her be your guide through the wonderful journey of mathematics where her classes are always ‘prime time’.
When she's not at APU you’ll find her biking, hiking, or skiing the many trails of Anchorage.
