My undergraduate college experience was one of re-evaluation and intense self scrutiny. I went to Harvard as the completion of a dream rather than as the beginning of one. My real education began after graduation, when I hitched across country, joined a commune in the hills of Northern California, built a geodesic dome, and then traded it for a Chinese junk.
Later on, as a high school math teacher in my home town in upstate New York, I was fortunate enough to coach some state championship wrestling teams, two of whose members went on to win Olympic Gold medals. Along the way I've taught rock climbing, coached college and Olympic wrestlers, and sailed around the world in the merchant marine.
More significantly, I'm a brother of five and an uncle of eleven. I'm an addict of used bookstores and chocolate. I now teach philosophy because I am convinced that ideas are the living tools by which we transform the world.
