Admissions

First Year Students

(Freshmen and transfer students who have earned less than 30 college semester hours)

Admission Methods

Alaska Pacific University has adopted a modified rolling admissions procedure, which allows students to apply at any time within the admission cycle. However, for priority in financial assistance consideration students must file their applications by February 1. Reports of sixth semester grades may be required. Students are notified when the admissions committee makes its decision rather than having to wait until the mid-April reply date used by many institutions. The national candidates reply date for student's response is May 1.

In order for students to apply for admission, they must provide the following to the Admissions Office:

  1. Submit the on-line Undergraduate Application for Admission to the Alaska Pacific University Office of Admissions.
  2. Send a nonrefundable application fee of $25 made payable to Alaska Pacific University. Send your fee in care of the Office of Admissions.
  3. Provide official transcript(s). Students must request that an official transcript be mailed directly to the Alaska Pacific University Office of Admissions from their high school and, if a transfer freshman applicant, from their college records office. (Note: final high school transcripts verifying graduation and final rank in class are required before the student may enroll as a degree-seeking student.)
  4. Submit the results of the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT I) or the American College Test (ACT). College Entrance Examination Board (CEEB), SAT II subject tests are optional. Applicants who completed high school more than three years previous to applying, or who hold the GED, do not need to submit ACT/SAT scores.
  5. Arrange to have two letters of recommendation sent, preferably from the applicant's counselor, teachers, headmaster or principal. Additional recommendations are optional but may be requested by the Admissions Office in certain instances.
  6. Submit a personal essay based on one of the three discussion topics listed on the application form.

An interview is strongly recommended but not required.

Admission Standards

Once the application for admission is complete, the package will be reviewed by the admissions committee. The committee's decision to admit or deny will be based on the overall quality of the admissions package.

  1. The minimum academic standard includes a 2.50 cumulative high school GPA (based on a 4.00 = "A" scale). Applicants whose cumulative high school GPA is below 2.50 may be considered for admission if they have submitted an otherwise strong application. When admitted, such applicants may be required to take certain courses or workshop activities in their areas of weakness. These requirements will be communicated in the acceptance letter.
  2. An SAT composite score of 920 or ACT composite score of 19 is normally required for admission to the University. Applicants whose scores are below 920/19 may be considered for admission if they have submitted an otherwise strong application.
  3. The admissions committee will consult with the Academic Dean and the appropriate department chair or program director when questionable applications are considered.
