Counseling and Wellness Center

Why Counseling?

  • "Sometimes I feel like I don't really belong here."
  • "I want to stop procrastinating."
  • "It's so hard to make friends here."
  • "Going home for the holidays was more difficult than I had expected."
  • "My roommate situation is so bad I can't even work."
  • "I used to know what I really felt passionate about in my life. Now I'm not so sure."
  • "If these are the best four years of my life . . .."
  • "I get distracted easily, and I find it hard to pay attention."
  • "I feel like I need to be thinner to be okay."
  • "I'm scared about coming out to my parents."
  • "By the middle of the semester; I start to feel so depressed and discouraged."

If any of these sound familiar to you or bring up other feelings that you'd like to talk about, then counseling could be helpful to you. When you are a student, whatever is going on academically can affect how you feel about yourself as a person. Conversely, whatever is happening to you personally can affect your ability to do academic work. And if you are a staff member or family member, it is also important for you to be aware of how stress and pressure can affect your relationships, either at home or at work. Keep in mind that children are particularly vulnerable to stressors.

Choosing to see a counselor is a personal decision. We just want to make sure you know that you have options available to you and your family here at APU.
