Alaska Pacific University Expresses Heartfelt Concern for Dial Family

The Alaska Pacific University community wishes to express heartfelt concern and support for the family of our colleague and friend, Environmental Science Professor, Roman Dial, whose son, Cody Roman, was reported missing in Costa Rica approximately two weeks ago. Cody Dial has been on hiatus from pursuing his Master’s degree in Environmental Science at APU since January of this year. He was reportedly kayaking and doing research in the remote jungle of Corcovado National Park, along the southwestern coast of the Central American country, when he disappeared.

Dial Sr., a highly experienced and well-regarded figure among Alaska’s wilderness adventurers, has spent considerable time conducting research and leading student groups in the tropical canopy of the Costa Rican jungle over the years. Dr. Dial joined the search operation for his son this week.

“We are all watching this situation closely and with profound concern,” says APU President, Don Bantz. “Obviously, Cody Dial has tremendous experience and preparation on his side in this situation, and we have that to be thankful for.”
