Students in the Master of Arts Program gathered at APU for a talk delivered by Ryan Knight, a MAP candidate investigating rhetoric within and surrounding the African-American community.
Knight, ’12, earned a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies. Her senior project focused on “The N-Word” and was a catalyst for her master’s coursework.
At the MAP colloquium on Sept. 21, she presented a talk titled “The New Black,” which described findings based on a review of the literature. Knight’s goals include applying her thesis research to help change the status quo and eventually write a book.
The colloquium attracted 10 MAP students, each of whom is pursuing a customized program of individually mentored studies and projects. A second MAP colloquium showcasing student projects is scheduled for Dec. 7th.
The Master of Arts Program attracts adults whose life experience and professional achievements prepare them for self-paced study in a low-residency program. MAP is offered through the Liberal Studies Department.
