Originally from Chicago, Zack made his way to Alaska in pursuit of a career as a marine biologist after high school. During his time at APU he was the primary lab technician for the aquarium lab located on campus for 3.5 years, was a research associate on a graduate student’s thesis as an acoustic technician, and participated; as well as supervised, as a marine mammal observer with the APU Scientific Marine Mammal Monitoring Program (SMMM). Since graduation in 2010, Zack has had his senior project from APU accepted for publication, co-authored an annual report for the Port of Anchorage regarding the behavior of Cook Inlet beluga whales, and has instructed the Aquarium biology course at APU as an adjunct instructor of environmental science. He currently remains in the field part time as a marine mammal observer for a consulting firm in Anchorage during summer months, and is actively pursuing a M.S. Environmental science degree here at APU.
