Graduate Program

Master In Global Finance

The Master of Global Finance (MGF) program at Alaska Pacific University is a state-of-the-art graduate program in applied finance primarily intended for students who wish to pursue a career in the finance industry or acquire the requisite technical knowledge and skills to provide professional advice as an independent investment consultant. There is also a thesis track available for students who intend to do higher research or subsequently get into a PhD program in finance. The program is very hands-on and the students get to use a host of cuttingedge tools and techniques needed to put theoretical knowledge into practical use. Courses in the program are designed so as to help students transform theoretical knowledge into practical applications rather than just acquire knowledge for its own sake. A special finance laboratory equipped with Bloomberg terminals is available for student use. Additionally, all MGF students get to actively participate in the management of the APU Student Fund which exposes them to handling a real investment portfolio rather than merely a simulated one. Instructors in the program include both highly qualified full-time APU faculty as well as experienced industry experts. The program shares some of its courses with other graduate business programs offered by the department and has a similar set of admissions criteria. However, being more quantitative and analytical than other business programs, the Master in Global Finance requires a mandatory Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT) score from all applicants unless waived by the Program Director. GMAT waiver requests may be approved only on the basis of demonstrable evidence of exemplary quantitative and analytical skills possessed by the applicant. *

The following are the degree objectives of the MGF program:

  • Understanding financial theory along with an acquired expertise in utilizing the latest tools and techniques for practical applications in the finance industry; students should be fully "market ready" by the time they graduate.
  • By comprehensively covering all facets of orthodox financial investment methodology and technology from both academic as well as industrial stand-points, students should be prepared to become both professional investors as well as potential investment professionals.

* Pending ACPE approval
