An environment of active learning is the most unique characteristic of studying at Alaska Pacific University. Most business schools treat the study of finance and economics as an academic pursuit. Alaska Pacific students are expected to put what they have learned in the classroom to practical use as an integral component of their studies. Consultants to the program as well as executive lecturers and student advisors, McKinley Capital has made a vital commitment to the success of the program with the intent of establishing the premier global finance program in the country.

It is this partnership with McKinley Capital that enables Alaska Pacific to establish a fully functioning trading room on the APU campus. Students will have access and become expert in utilizing the most advanced quantitative software available. The trading room at Alaska Pacific University will be a hands-on portal to worldwide markets. The key to the trading room's value is the full-capacity Bloomberg Terminal that monitors worldwide markets in real time.

Transforming information into intelligence is central to successful financial management. Students will be actively involved in exploring theories that aid in the transformation of information into intelligence. FactSet, an integrated database for investment managers, is essential to this integration and interpretation of knowledge. Financial managers often need to perform in-depth quantitative analysis, examine a wide range of information on a company being researched, or produce a portfolio attribution report. FactSet enables the Alaska Pacific student to perform real-time stock modeling, corporate analysis, portfolio analysis and a tremendous range of other investment functions. There are very few business schools that have FactSet capability.
