Master of Science in Environmental Science

Original Research

Independent research is the hallmark of science and informed policy. The MSES program creates a learning environment where the principle outcome is an original piece of research. The process begins with the first course students take in the program, "Research Methods," whose principal outcome is a thesis proposal. Other courses may be taken to develop the conceptual underpinnings to the thesis topic, to locate the topic in a policy context, and to develop the analytic and experimental tools needed to carry out the preparation, data collection, analysis, documentation, and defense of the thesis.
