Teaching in Alaska — Preparing at APU
There is no better place than APU where teacher candidates can prepare to teach elementary K-8 students in elementary or middle school. , develop and use outdoor skills, and address challenges both in K-8 classrooms and outdoors in the beauty of nature.
At APU, the undergraduate Teacher Preparation Program (TPP), graduate Certification Only-Option Program (CO-OP), and Master of Teaching Program (MAT) provide students with opportunities, using Active Learning, to reach both professional goals of teaching in elementary (K-8) classrooms and personal goals relating to the beauty and wonder of nature.
Challenging opportunities for certificated elementary teachers abound throughout Alaska in a variety of natural settings, areas, and cultures. The Elementary Education Program (K-8) has successfully prepared teachers who are now in their own classrooms across the State.
