Teaching in Alaska — Preparing at APU

There is no better place than APU where teacher candidates can prepare to teach K-8 students in elementary or middle school, develop and use outdoor skills, and address challenges both in K-8 classrooms and the outdoors in the beauty of nature.

At APU, the graduate (CO-OP), and K-8 Teaching Certification Program provides students with opportunities, using Active Learning, to reach both professional goals of teaching in elementary (K-8) classrooms and personal goals relating to the beauty and wonder of nature.

Challenging opportunities for certified elementary teachers abound throughout Alaska in a variety of natural settings, areas, and cultures. The Education Department has successfully prepared teachers who are now in their own classrooms across the State.
