Lesley Hammer- BA in Natural Resources: Earth and Environmental Science (class of 1987)

APU was a great choice for me, at the time it provided the type of personal atmosphere that I was interested in.  In retrospect I am even more appreciative of the quality of professors that I had at APU.  I was prepared scientifically as well as with general world views that have proven to be highly beneficial to my career and to me personally.

I went on to complete a Master’s degree in Teaching and taught Science and Chemistry at the Jr. High and High School levels for a few years. I then changed careers to Forensic Science and completed a second Master’s Degree in Forensic Science at the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland. I worked for 14 years at the Alaska State Crime Lab and now am a private consultant and trainer in the field of Forensic Science.

Currently I provide training across the US and Canada in the area of Forensic Footwear and Tire Track Collection and Examination.  I also work cases from Alaska, other US states, Canada and occasionally from other international countries in this discipline. I have a contract to write my first forensic textbook. I have considered the goal of eventually working in a forensic academic environment such as at a University, and I would also like to continue writing both books and articles.
