![]() Early Honors ProgramCheck out the Early Honors Program from a student's point of view. Sara Perman, a current EHP student, just wrote an article for the ADN. EHP graduate ('07) Lynn Lethin introduces the program in a digital short produced by the Digital Film students in Spring '07. The Early Honors Program is both an alternative to the senior year in high school and a challenging springboard into college. During both semesters, Early Honors students enroll in a common university-level curriculum designed with the intent to satisfy the senior level requirements of the Anchorage and Mat-Su School Districts. Depending on the student's remaining requirements, they will have the opportunity to select courses from the Alaska Pacific schedule relevant to their academic interests. Early Honors classes are primarily scheduled to meet in the mornings to allow students to continue participation in their extracurricular activities. APU works on a Block and Session semester format that involves intensive courses three times a year: September, January, and an optional block in May.
The Fall Block starts off the Early Honors program with Critical Thinking. Students move into the Session in late September and finish their semester by mid-December. Many of the students elect to participate in the Study Abroad option for the Spring Block but alternatives are available on-campus. The Spring Session begins in early February. Students will gain an appreciation of the arts and sciences, and will build and refine their analytical and expressive reasoning powers. |
