March – April 2014
Mei Mei Evans, Professor of English at Alaska Pacific University, will be reading from her novel “Oil and Water” which focuses on the question of what happens when the American dream collides head-on with a nation’s dependence on fossil fuel. Starting with a star-crossed supertanker, a wayward fishing boat, and a well-known hazard in the Gulf of Alaska, the story presents a region plunged into an oil-slicked crisis. As thousands of miles of shoreline and sea are obliterated, the spill threatens the lives and livelihoods of the coastal community of Selby.
Meet some of Alaska’s finest fiction writers: Don Rearden, Mei Mei Evans, Deb Vanasse, Lee Goodman, Kris Farmen, and Martha Amore. Publisher Vered Mares of VP&D House will also be available for questions. Opening talk by Martha Amore, APU’s Spring 2014 Writer-in-Residence.
