A Message from Acting President Hilton Hallock – Revised Campus Reopening Plan
June 2, 2021
Dear APU community,
As you know, we recently reopened our campus for the summer term. We have also updated the Campus Reopening Plan following the recent guidelines of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and with the guidance of our public health partners.
Most notably, we are no longer requiring fully vaccinated individuals to wear masks or physically distance themselves from others, although they are welcome to do so. Unvaccinated students and employees may choose not to wear a mask when they are in their own offices or residential units. Vaccinations are strongly encouraged and may be required to participate in certain activities.
We must all commit to maintaining the health and safety of the APU community, our families, and our neighbors. Employees, non-residential students, contractors, and visitors who have symptoms of COVID-19, have an active but asymptomatic case of the virus, or are otherwise sick should refrain from coming to campus. New cases of the virus must be reported to the university.
We are returning to our regular course delivery formats for the fall, and housing and dining services will be available. However, APU’s plans for responding to the COVID-19 pandemic are flexible. As we have done throughout the pandemic, we will continue to monitor case trends and public health guidance and to update APU faculty, staff, students and their families, and our community partners as necessary.
We recognize that our actions, both as an institution and as individuals, impact the wellbeing of families and communities beyond our campus. Because of our efforts, we have not seen community spread of the virus. The commitment of the APU community to our collective wellbeing has been extraordinary.
Thanks again for your ongoing commitment to the health and safety of the APU community!
