Alaska Pacific University (APU) invites applications for Assistant or Associate Professor of Business Administration or related field with particular interest in the development of business programs which meet the needs of Alaska, Alaska Natives, and rural communities. Preferred areas of expertise include finance, marketing, entrepreneurship, and/or business analytics.
APU is a small, private liberal arts university, known for experiential and project-based learning. The university campus is in Anchorage, Alaska, a diverse city and home to more than 300,000 residents. APU offers a unique set of bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate level degrees, with emphasis on Alaska-critical and globally-relevant issues. APU’s campus sits adjacent to the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium (ANTHC) on the Alaska Native Health Campus. APU and ANTHC have formed a strategic partnership, with the aspiration of moving APU towards Tribal University status, growing innovative programs that are responsive to the workforce needs of Alaska, as well as growing Alaskan and Alaska Native professionals from within the state.
The Program Area
In the Business Administration program area, APU offers distinctive programs at each level, with significant networking and community connections for students. Offerings at the undergraduate level include: undergraduate certificate in Alaska Rural Management; AA in Business Administration; and BA in Business Administration & Management. At the graduate level, the hallmark program is the Master of Business Administration with optional concentrations in Health Administration and Finance. Also at the graduate level, offering include: Executive MBA in Strategic Leadership; Executive MBA in Information & Communication Technology; graduate certificate in Investments; and graduate certificate in Innovation, Creativity & Entrepreneurship. The area operates with a collaborative and entrepreneurial approach, developing corporate programs to address leadership and management capacity-building for Alaska corporations, exemplified by the Alaska Native Executive Leadership Program. The program area is housed within APU’s Institute of Business & Public Policy.
Duties of the Position
The contract carries a 9-month teaching load of 24 credit hours per year (typically, 3-4 courses per semester). Teaching assignments may cross undergraduate and graduate levels, with at least 50% of the teaching load at the graduate level. Responsibilities include mentorship and advising for students, as well as program development and advocacy. All faculty are encouraged to grow professional recognition through scholarship, research, consulting, and/or other endeavors appropriate to their chosen field. Faculty are expected to participate in outcomes assessment, curriculum development, student activities, as well as other service to the university and broader community.
Rank and Salary
Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor. Salary is dependent upon educational preparation and prior experience, and is proscribed by a university-wide salary range. APU is a non-tenure college; faculty are eligible for multi-year appointments after initial contracts.
Date of Appointment
At time of appointment, preferred earned doctorate or terminal degree in Business Administration or related field; Master’s level acceptable with professional experience. Successful candidates include those with proficiency in research, teaching and mentoring, or those with extensive professional experience in business or management fields. Candidates who can demonstrate expertise in both teaching and professional skills are preferred.
