The System Engineer’s role is to ensure the stability and integrity of the University’s server and storage infrastructure. This is achieved by planning, designing, and developing server and storage technology across the organization. In addition, the System Engineer will participate in the installation, monitoring, maintenance, support, and optimization of all server and storage hardware and software. This individual will also analyze and resolve server problems in a timely and accurate manner. This position reports to the Director of Information Technology.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES
· Manage physical servers and VMware virtual servers Configure storage area network (SAN) and network attached storage (NAS) systems Responsible for virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) Deploy Microsoft Windows, Applications and Updates using Microsoft Configuration Manager (formerly SCCM) Develop automated processes using PowerShell scripting
· Manage print servers and enterprise printers
· Administer Microsoft Windows share drives for organization
· Ensure Microsoft Windows domain controller core services are operational, such as Active Directory, domain name service (DNS), dynamic host configuration protocol (DHCP) and group policy object (GPO)
· Create and edit security groups in Active Directory and Azure
· Manage Apple MacOS and iOS; Google Chromebook and Android devices
· Rack system and storage equipment, cables, and accessories
· Perform upfront problem root cause analysis to understand the impact, severity, and risks; determine what workarounds and known errors exist; and assign a priority to such tickets
· Ensure server and storage monitoring and alerts are operational
· Analyze and remediate security threats and vulnerabilities
· Maintain a highly secure environment through proper configuration
· Document changes to the systems using change management best practices
· Participate in Business Continuity Planning and Exercises
· Perform backup and restore operations for servers and databases
· Organize inventory for server and storage devices and accessories
· Ensure that problems in the environment are entered in the problem management ticketing system in a timely manner with accurate information
· Assist IT Director with server and storage related purchasing and licensing
· Back up duties for Network Engineer:
· Support switches; Wi-Fi access points (WAP); routers and firewalls; web filter; network device backup and restore; uninterruptible power supply (UPS) battery backup systems; security camera system; network connectivity
· Backup for Microsoft 365 Admin duties:
· Support Exchange and Exchange Online
· Support Azure

· Solid understanding of Microsoft Windows, Active Directory, Group Policies and end user administration
· Solid understanding of TCP/IP protocol stack, DHCP, DNS, sub netting, VLANs, switching, routing, access control lists and network troubleshooting
· Comfortable with remote administration tools
· Demonstrated desktop computer management in a client/server network
· Experience with multifunction copiers, scan-to email and file, print metering, and driver nuances
· Knowledgeable with desktop and server virtualization
· Skill in managing multiple projects and deadlines effectively, prioritizing customer needs and determining urgency and impact of requests
· Skill in communicating effectively with a variety of audiences, both verbally and in writing
· Skill in presenting complex technical information to non-technical audiences

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION
Non-Supervisory: Four (4) years’ experience working in the information technology environment.

Associates Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology from accredited institution
