Risk Mitigation: Masking, Cleaning/Disinfecting

APU will operate as a community with shared responsibility that mitigates health risks according to Department of Health and Social Services (DHSS) and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines.

  • We strongly encourage all students and employees to be vaccinated before returning to campus.
  • Those who are fully vaccinated will not be required to wear masks or physically distance themselves, although they are welcome to do so.
  • Unvaccinated students and employees may choose not to wear a mask when they are in their own offices or residential units.
  • Employees, non-residential students, contractors, and visitors who have symptoms of COVID-19, have an active but asymptomatic case of the virus, or are otherwise sick should refrain from coming to campus.
  • APU will continue to maintain a supply of personal protective equipment (PPE) and sanitation supplies.
  • Common areas will be cleaned and disinfected regularly, following CDC guidelines and other public health guidance.

    Teaching and Learning

Academic courses have returned to their regular delivery formats. APU students who are isolated due to infection or exposure will continue their education with minimal  disruption, as they are able.

    • Faculty should ensure that field-based courses incorporate appropriate strategies to limit risk of virus transmission through risk-management protocols.
    • Campus Life and Academic Affairs will work with isolated students to provide support for participating in classes remotely or identify alternative ways to complete coursework.
    • APU will reserve housing spaces to provide isolated rooms for up to six residential students who test positive for COVID-19.
    • APU will identify resources to provide care, counseling, and other services to isolated individuals, including  food service delivery systems.

Access to Campus Buildings and Library

APU campus buildings and the UAA/APU Consortium Library continue to require an ID badge to access the building.

    • Visitors to campus should make prior arrangements for access by contacting relevant offices.
    • We continue to promote the use of electronic resources and procedures for library services, such as contacting reference librarians.

    Travel

University-sponsored travel must comply with CDC and local guidelines and relevant APU policies and procedures.

    • Off-campus risk management plans must incorporate relevant COVID-19 mitigation strategies. Some University activities may require vaccinations or negative COVID testing followed by isolation prior to participation.
    • APU travelers must respect local community efforts to respond to the pandemic.

COVID-19 Testing, Vaccination, and Contact Tracing

APU will work with community partners to facilitate testing and vaccination of employees and students and to monitor infection trends.

    • Students and employees are strongly encouraged to get vaccinated for COVID-19.
    • Employees and students are required to inform the university if they test positive for COVID-19, are experiencing symptoms of the virus, or have been identified through contact tracing as having been exposed to COVID-19.
    • APU will monitor the heath environment of the campus and quickly respond to significant increases in infection rates.
    • APU students and employees can get tested for COVID-19 at ANTHC.
    • Students can get vaccinated at ANTHC.

    Returning to Campus

Campus offices will function primarily through on-campus staffing.

Employee requests for continued telecommuting will be considered on a case-by-case basis, focusing on the employee’s job responsibilities, health status, and personal circumstances.

    Conferences

Guidelines for conference guests depend on the nature of their activities and the age of participants. Contact Conferencing Services for more information.

Reservations for conferences or other events on campus require COVID-related risk management protocols.
