Executive Summary
Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, Alaska Pacific University has prioritized the health and safety of our community members. We recognize that our actions, both as an institution and as individuals, impact the wellbeing of families and communities beyond our campus. Our protocols for mitigating the risk of COVID-19 have been successful so far, and we have not experienced community spread of the virus. The commitment of the APU community to our collective wellbeing has been extraordinary.
As we made plans for the reopening of campus, we have worked with students, faculty, staff, community members, and public health partners to understand the impact of the pandemic on learning, teaching, and overall wellness. We are following the guidance of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and state and local authorities as well. Following recent CDC guidance, APU is making several adjustments to its pandemic response and campus reopening plans.
We strongly encourage all students and employees to be vaccinated before returning to campus. Masks are required in all indoor public or common spaces on campus (lobbies, conference rooms, gyms, classrooms, etc.) Physical distance is encouraged.
APU has returned to normal course delivery, and housing and dining services are available to students. We will continue to set aside rooms for residential students who need to quarantine.
Access to campus buildings will continue to require an APU ID badge through the summer, and we will require prior reservations or appointments for public access to campus facilities.
We must all commit to maintaining the health and safety of the APU community, our families, and our neighbors. Employees, non-residential students, contractors, and visitors who have symptoms of COVID-19, have an active but asymptomatic case of the virus, or are otherwise sick should refrain from coming to campus.
APU’s plans for responding to the COVID-19 pandemic are flexible. As we have done throughout the pandemic, we will continue to monitor case trends and public health guidance and to update APU faculty, staff, students and their families, and our community partners as necessary.
