The pursuit of a college degree is often likened to a quest- an arduous and adventuresome journey. For me, place is a pivotal and consequential component of such a journey. What better place than Alaska-the Great Land, the Last Frontier, the Land of the Midnight Sun-and Alaska Pacific University (APU) to begin your quest?
At APU #ThisIsOurClassroom. There is simply no other state like Alaska; no other city quite like Anchorage- both provide something unique, charismatic and essential to the APU educational experience. And that’s what I think education is: an experience. Experiment. Play. Challenge yourself to a rigorous, personalized educational adventure for independent-minded students.
We are a tight-knit community. We work together. We surround you with an active community of learners, an intimate campus with the most knowledgeable, experienced and reputable guides to accompany you on your quest, and the most majestic scenery you could imagine. Those guides will get to know you as individuals. They know just how and where to challenge and encourage you. They will be with you through peaks and valleys. APU alumni say the richness of their faculty relationship is the most valuable part of their APU experience.
APU provides a breadth of dynamic learning opportunities because, at its core, an APU education is designed to broaden and deepen your potential through action. We are successful when your quest leads you to discover your place in the world or your professional future as you define it.
One of my own personal commitments to action is to respect the natural classroom our state provides. APU signed the President’s Climate Commitment – a national effort to reduce campus carbon footprints to zero. We recently invested $4.1 million to install energy efficiency measures in campus buildings, reducing our energy consumption, energy bill, and carbon footprint by one-third!
Join me and the rest of the APU community for a distinctive educational experience in Alaska, the land of spirit, opportunity, and adventure.
We’ve come along away and we’re going further.
