Coronavirus Updates

June 23 – Message from Provost Hilton Hallock to APU students – Coronavirus Relief Grant Funding Available Fall 2021

June 28, 2021

Dear Students,

Fall 2021 semester federal grants are available through a simple application* due October 1.  These are grant funds that do not need to be repaid. To qualify applicants must be or have been:

  • An enrolled student at Alaska Pacific University on or after March 13, 2020, the date of declaration of the national emergency due to the coronavirus.  This now includes non-Title IV eligible students, such as undocumented students and international students.
  • In need of covering expenses for any component of the student’s cost of attendance or for emergency costs that arise due to coronavirus, such as tuition, food, housing, health care (including mental health care), or child care; prioritizing students with exceptional need.

*Fall 2021 undergraduate student Pell Grant recipients will automatically be awarded an emergency financial aid grant without the need to submit this application and will be considered to have exceptional need.  Pell Grant recipients may complete the form to have the grant applied to the student account instead of receiving a direct payment.

Changes to Your Family’s Financial Situation:

If you or your family’s financial situation has changed significantly from what is reflected on your 2019 federal income tax return (for example, if you’ve lost a job or otherwise experienced a drop in income), you may be eligible to have your financial aid adjusted. Complete the FAFSA questions as instructed on the application (including the transfer of tax return and income information), submit your FAFSA form, then contact Alaska Pacific University to discuss how your current financial situation has changed. Note that the school’s decision is final and cannot be appealed to the U.S. Department of Education.

The application for fall 2021 is attached and should take less than five minutes to complete and submit.  It requires self-certification of eligibility and use of funds.  You must submit your completed application to financialaid@alaskapacific.edu by October 1, 2021 to receive funding.  Funds will be disbursed approximately late October 2021.
