APU Students, Staff, and Faculty,
I hope all of you are doing well during this time of many changes. APU continues to actively monitor the situation and adjust our operational plans as appropriate. The community mitigation strategies being put in place across Alaska may help delay the timing of the peak, and hopefully the height, of the impact of COVID19. There are many variables in this equation though and the predictive models vary.
It is still critical that each of us do our part to follow the advisories, mandates, and orders for the safety and wellbeing of our families, friends, and communities until we have better testing, supplies, and potentially treatment options to address the pandemic.
As a result of the changing conditions we have the following changes in operations to announce.
• May Block and Summer Courses – May Block and Summer Courses will move to a distance-delivery format. Due to the experiential nature of the course or low enrollment, a few courses may be still be cancelled or postponed. Student registered for cancelled or postponed classes will contacted by the Registrar’s Office. If a course is postponed until later in the summer, students eligible for flex tuition credits may apply those credits to that course. For current listings, see the course list on the website.
• Summer Housing – In an effort to minimize on-campus health risks related to COVID-19, the Office of Campus Life is suspending the Summer Housing Program normally offered May through August. Any student needing access to summer storage will need to be arranged by appointment through the Office of Campus Life. Current residents who may need to extend their permission to stay in housing should contact the Office of Campus Life to discuss options.
• Moseley Sports Center and Atwood Weight Room and Climbing Wall – The Moseley Sports Center and Atwood Weight Room and climbing wall was operating under limited access for internal APU community members only for the past two weeks. Due to the increase in the community transmission of the COVID19 virus in Anchorage, we will be closing all access to these facilities starting immediately. Existing classes may continue access. We will continually evaluate the reopening of these facilities based on the external situation with COVID19.
• Starting April 1, building access will be limited to the APU community and will be by badge/ID access only. If you are not sure whether your ID will work, send a message in advance to ITHelpdesk@alaskapacific.edu and ask them to check whether your badge is active.
Resources, FAQs, and other information related to COVID19 are available on the University’s Coronavirus website.
If you have questions and are unsure of who to ask use AskAPU@alaskapacific.edu
Thanks and take care,
Bob
