Kyan Olanna is a member of the Native Village of Shishmaref and a shareholder in the Shishmaref Native Corporation and Bering Strait Native Corporation. She obtained a Rural Development degree from the University of Alaska Fairbanks and then earned a law degree from Yale Law School.
From 2010-2014, she served as General Counsel for the Norton Sound Economic Development Corporation and the Norton Sound Health Corporation, and has worked as an attorney in the law firms of Perkins Coie and Sonosky, Chambers, Sachse, Miller & Munson. Olanna served as law clerk to former Chief Justice Bryner of the Alaska Supreme Court. She has also been an adjunct professor at the University of Alaska Anchorage and is involved with the Rural Alaska Honors Institute.
Olanna is an attorney at the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium and is currently serving as the Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer.
