The James C. Parsons Memorial Scholarship was established to serve as a memorial to Jim Parsons, an original faculty member of Alaska Methodist University and its Psychology Program. Active in every facet of Alaska’s life, Jim Parsons was Alaska’s first mental health practitioner prior to statehood, was as a member of the Alaska State Legislature, served on numerous boards of non-profit organizations, particularly in the arts, was a talented singer, and a committed volunteer. Founded by Jim’s many friends, the fund will provide scholarship assistance to a student who represents Jim’s spirit and legacy.
Sophomore or higher enrolled in APU’s undergraduate or graduate programs in Counseling Psychology or Human Services. Demonstrated financial need. An active volunteer within APU and/or the broader community. Demonstrates social responsibility and concern for others through his/her actions. Agrees to submit a 1 page letter of thanks and report on their academic goals/progress at the end of the academic year. Recipient must write a thank you letter.
