Name: Makenna Edgington
Programs completed at APU: Earth Science (BS)

Hometown: All over, but we’ll say Indianapolis, IN.
Favorite Class at APU: I really loved Calculus I and II with Pam. You can tell she really loves what she does and is amazing at figuring out where you went wrong in a problem and how you can fix it. She also doesn’t beat around the bush when explaining things. It’s refreshing to know that whatever we do in class and as homework, it is not busywork. The quizzes, tests, and projects have real world application. You don’t just learn formulas and then forget them. They become more useful and build on each other as you go through her class. Also, her math humor is hilarious. Who doesn’t love a good pi joke?
What will you miss about APU? Since I work at APU in the Admissions department, I’m not planning on going anywhere for a bit, but if I do leave I will definitely miss the people. APU stands out from the crowd when it comes to a community that cares about you as a student and person.
What is going to be your next adventure post-APU? Hopefully I’ll be able to pursue a career in the environmental field. I would really like to work more with GIS and databases, but who knows what the future holds! It could be grad school next, or both!
Any words of wisdom for students working on completing their degrees? You can do it! Even if it feels like you’re climbing up a 90 degree incline through oil because you have 2 papers and 3 projects due in the same week and you have to write up your junior practicum, you will get to your goal and graduate. You got this. And don’t forget to get outside of your bubble and be involved in research. It’s available for you, you just have to go after it. Whatever your passion “it” is, your professors have your back.
