Do a dive-based Junior Practicum, Senior Project or Thesis Research. Two current research projects involving student divers at APU include Eloise Brown’s invasive species project in Kachemak Bay and David Scheel’s annual cruise in Prince William Sound.
Alaska Pacific University has a partnership with the Alaska Sealife Center (ASLC) in Seward, Alaska. Students can participate in aquarium dives and earn college credit through the Alaska SeaLife Center Exhibits Diver Volunteer or Dive-Aquarium Husbandry Summer Fellowship Programs. (Junior Practicum or Directed Study Elective credit available).
The American Academy of Underwater Sciences is an international organization that represents the industry standard for scientific diving. Being part of the APU Dive Program offers students the chance to dive with other AAUS members. It’s a great option for students who wish to pursue a career in scientific or aquarium diving.
