Traditional Homelands

Honoring The Dena’ina People

The APU main campus sits on the traditional homelands of the Dena’ina people. We seek to honor this heritage with our commitment to place-based learning, celebration of community and tradition, and good stewardship of this land. Throughout campus, students and visitors alike will see and feel our commitment to honoring the Dena’ina people.

A Community Gathering Place

With the largest proportion of Alaska Native and American Indians of any city in the United States (per 2014 US Census), Anchorage is often referred to as “Alaska’s Largest Village”. APU is pleased to serve as a gathering place for community events that honor Alaska Native peoples and culture.
