Overview
Jim Mahaffey and his wife Dee have served as valuable members of the Alaska Pacific University community. From 1967 to 1975, Jim served as head coach for the intercollegiate ski team. He also was acting athletic director for a one-year period. He was an associate professor of physical and outdoor education from 1967 through 1992 and was the department Chairperson from 1975 until his retirement in 1992. Additionally, Jim spent thousands of hours designing, developing and maintaining the trail system at APU. As a tireless advocate of the trail system, he has negotiated with numerous groups to preserve the integrity of overall trails. Because of Jim’s dedication as a watchful steward over the trail system, the Alaska Pacific University Board of Trustees honored him by naming the trails on the APU campus the “Jim Mahaffey Trail System”.
Dee’s loyalty to AMU and APU extends beyond her support of Jim’s tireless efforts. Dee earned her Masters in Teaching from the university in 1972.
