When brainstorming what I had wanted to do as my last RA event, a few things came to mind. Waffle Bar, American Sign Language Night, to name a few. I also realized how close the end of the semester was. The idea for the “Stuff” Drive came as I was beginning to pack up and clean up my room. I had made a pile of old clothes, unwanted linens, and canned food that I would never eat. I wanted it out of my room, but I didn’t want to waste it. I remembered a few years ago when a club donated some leftover food to The Rescue on Tudor.
Not knowing a lot of shelters or places around anchorage that would take things like this, I reached out to a friend, who works within the community, for some ideas. She gave me the name of the shelters: AWAIC (Abused Women’s Aid in Crisis), The Covenant House, and Brother Francis. From there, there were a lot of emails back and forth trying to come to a plan that would work for all parties. Finally, the bins were set out, and the donations started coming in. All of the shelters have expressed gratitude at the thought of being thought of.
Please donate! It helps you clear out your dorms/houses/etc and helps people in need!
