Getting Started with FAFSA

Free Application for Federal Student Aid

To get started with APU financial aid, students (and parents or spouse, if applicable) should complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) each year. The FAFSA is required to qualify for federal grants and loans, and is used to help determine scholarships and grants from APU. Some families are required to verify certain information provided on the FAFSA before our financial aid office can determine your eligibility.

The FAFSA is available starting October 1st for the following academic year. Complete your FAFSA at www.studentaid.gov several months before classes begin according to school-published deadlines. When prompted, use our school code:

APU’s FAFSA Code: 001061

Our financial aid office should receive the results of your FAFSA within three business days. You will also receive a summary of your information in your Student Aid Report. Some applications are selected for “Verification” – please see that section below.

It is important for you to check your APU email regularly. APU student email is our official communication link with all students. Examples of communications include:

  • Request for verification documents
  • Financial aid offer
  • “To do” items to complete your financial aid – otherwise it will not process
  • Eligibility notices
  • Additional scholarship opportunities

For help in filling out the FAFSA, go here or call 1-800-433-3243. TTY users (for the hearing impaired) may call 1-800-730-8913.

Verification Documents & Other Forms

Please do not fill out/submit these forms unless instructed to do so by the Office of Financial Aid. Please reach out to the Office of Financial Aid at: financialaid@alaskapacific.edu or 907-564-8341 if you have any additional questions regarding these forms.

About one-third of FAFSAs are selected for a review process known as “verification.” Our financial aid office will let you know by email if you are selected for verification. If selected, you (and your parents or spouse, if applicable) must provide documentation supporting your answers on the FAFSA to determine your eligibility for federal student aid. It is important that you respond within the timeframe requested to receive a financial aid offer.

May Block Flex Plan with PDF

The May Block flex plan is only for students in the traditional undergraduate program who are attending full-time (12 or more credits) in the spring semester. Students who drop to less than full-time in the spring semester are not eligible for the flex plan. Students must apply for the flex plan benefit; it is not automatic. The deadline for applications is the census date for May Block. The Flex Plan covers eligible tuition only; the student is responsible for the Student Association Fee, Course Lab Fee, Travel Fees, and/or other fees.

The flex plan allows students who register and complete 12-17 credits in the spring semester to ‘flex’ 1-4 credits in the May Block. The flex plan is processed through the Financial Aid office and is applied to the student’s account as financial aid. Students may not combine the block and session courses from different semesters and receive aid, as this is not allowed by federal regulations. Students may not count May Block as part of their spring semester.
