Water Aerobics Instructor

This temporary position reports directly to the Aquatic Programs Manager. This job description reflects the administration’s assignment of essential duties and responsibilities. It does not prescribe or restrict the tasks that may be assigned.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
1. Provide aerobic instruction.
2. Monitor and educate patrons on fitness and safety.
3. Demonstrate proper technique, understand muscle groups, and safe workout practices.
4. Adapt the exercise for different fitness levels.
5. Maintain a positive and inclusive environment.
KNOWLEDGE and SKILLS
1. Strong working knowledge of swimming and pool programs and the accompanying
rules, regulations, and safety precautions.
2. Ability to teach aerobics and maintain a safe and positive swimming environment.
3. Ability to communicate well and to work cooperatively with the public and coworkers.
4. Ability to treat all patrons equally and with fairness, and able to work with patrons
who may be at risk or may have special needs.
MINIMUM EDUCATION QUALIFICATION:
High School Diploma or GED
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATION
Non-Supervisory:
1. In lieu of certification, a minimum of one year of swimming instruction experience may
be acceptable at the pool manager’s discretion.
2. CPR/AED for the professional rescuer preferred.
MINIMUM CERTIFICATION QUALIFICATION:
Certification from a recognized fitness association (e.g., ASFA Water Aerobics Instructor certification or AEA Aquatic Fitness Professional Certification), with ongoing renewal/recertification obligations.
MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS The following demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The position requires standing, walking, sitting, reaching with hands and arms, climbing stairs, balancing, or kneeling. The employee must be able to lift and/or carry boxes & packages weighing up to 25 pounds
