APU Nordic Ski Center is comprised of an elite team of skiers who have made a commitment to achieving international excellence. APU Nordic Ski Center offers the ability for college-aged students to obtain an undergraduate or graduate level education with Alaska Pacific University while pursuing a competitive race career.
APU Nordic Ski Center promotes the development of cross-country skiing in Anchorage, Alaska through community-based athletic programs and education offering year-round programs for all ages and abilities. We have a talented and professional group of coaches who are committed to offering a supportive and positive experience for all.

Thomas Training Center at Eagle Glacier
Since 2018, the APU Nordic Ski Center has worked to rebuild and reimagine its training facilities after the original center was shifted off its foundation during the 2018 Southcentral Alaska earthquake. Today, the new replacement facility stands as a state-of-the-art hub for competitive cross-country skiing and Olympic development, purpose-built to support athletes at every stage of training. Designed with performance, recovery, and community in mind, the center reflects the Center’s continued commitment to developing world-class Nordic skiers in Alaska. High above Eagle Glacier, the Thomas Training Center offers one of the most unique summer ski training experiences in the world. Located 5,500 feet above Girdwood and accessible by helicopter from the Alaska Pacific University campus, the facility provides athletes with glacier skiing throughout the summer on expertly groomed trails. Complete with athlete housing, a gym, sauna, kitchen, and recovery spaces, the center hosts APU’s University & Elite, Junior, and Master’s programs, along with elite skiers from around the globe. Generously supported by famed Alaskan adventurers Lowell Thomas Jr. and Tay Thomas, the Thomas Training Center ensures that this extraordinary training environment will continue serving future generations of Nordic skiers for years to come.
