Academic Advisor

I’m Jayne, an academic advisor here at APU. I’m from Nunivak Island, home of the reindeer herders; my Cup’ig name is Panigacungar. I grew up in a family of teachers who taught me my times tables and sentence diagramming–but also how to pick wild berries, process freshly caught fish, and navigate the many tundra trails of Nunivak. I believe there is much to be learned at the intersection of Indigenous and Western ways of knowing, which is what drew me to APU.

I have a B.S. in Math, an M.A. in Education, and high school math teaching experience. When I’m not on campus, I’m probably listening to a history podcast, baking, or enjoying the outdoors with my husband and our Siberian husky, Mavis. I primarily work with first-year and transfer students with last names A-K, as well as anyone in the Community & Place-Based Education major. I look forward to seeing you on campus!

My area of advising is first-year and transfer students last names A-K, as well as all APU Connect teacher apprentices.
