Criteria Scholarships
APU Criteria Scholarships are awarded based on met criteria. Students are considered at the time of application and all students who meet the criteria are awarded the scholarship until funds are exhausted. Some criteria scholarships require an application in OneApp and/or documentation.

Selective Scholarships
Made possible by the generosity of donors, APU currently has over 40 selective scholarships that require an application and awarded based on committee selection. Program Specific Scholarships are listed by Institute. Additional program specific scholarships may be available through the department. Each scholarship has its own set of criteria and some may require an additional essay or documentation. Students who match the criteria will be invited through the OneApp to complete these additional requirements for consideration.

Alyeska Pipeline Service Company’s Alaska Native Scholarship	Undergraduate, Graduate	Alaska Native Student	This is a selective scholarship. A scholarship funded by APSC for Alaska Native students whose education will lead toward a career with the Trans-Alaska Pipeline System (TAPS).
Chenega Corporation Endowed Scholarship	Undergraduate, Graduate	Alaska Native Student	This is a selective scholarship. An endowed scholarship for Chenega Corporation shareholders, their spouses, and descendants.
Cook Inlet Region Inc. (CIRI) Endowed Scholarship	Undergraduate	Alaska Native Student	This is a selective scholarship. An endowed scholarship for CIRI shareholders enrolled full-time.
Ethel Gould Endowed Scholarship	Undergraduate, Graduate	Alaska Native Student	This is a selective scholarship. An endowed scholarship for Alaska Native students who are enrolled full-time.
Shel ch'naq'ahnilu Scholarship	Undergraduate, Graduate	Alaska Native Student	This is a criteria scholarship. A scholarship for Alaska Native, American Indian and Canada First Nations people. Documentation uploaded in OneApp required.
William Randolph Hearst Alaska Native Endowed Scholarship	Undergraduate	Alaska Native Student	This is a selective scholarship. An endowed scholarship providing financial support to Alaska Native or Native American students.
Yukon Delta Fisheries Development Association Scholarship	Undergraduate	Alaska Native Student	This is a selective scholarship. A scholarship for students pursuing an undergraduate and graduate degree from Alakanuak, Emmonak, Grayling, Kotlik, Mountain Village and Nunam Iqua.
Barney and Rachel Gottstein Endowed Scholarship	Undergraduate	Alaska Native Student, Institute of Culture and Environment	This is a selective scholarship. An endowed scholarship for Alaska Native students who have the intention to teach in rural Alaska following graduation.
Alaska Residency Scholarship	Undergraduate, Graduate	Alaska Resident	This is a criteria scholarship. A scholarship for students who graduated an Alaska high school or who have been resident of Alaska.
Richard L. and Diane M. Block Endowed Scholarship	Undergraduate	Alaska Resident	This is a selective scholarship. An endowed scholarship supporting students from the Anchorage area who demonstrate scholarly merit. Recipients of this scholarship are deemed a Block Scholar.
Richard L. and Diane M. Block Foundation Scholarship	Undergraduate	Alaska Resident	This is a selective scholarship. A scholarship that provides financial assistance to full-time Alaskan students located outside of the Anchorage area who intend to work within the state of Alaska following graduation.
Ruth E. Sutton Endowed Scholarship	Undergraduate	Alaska Resident	This is a selective scholarship. An endowed scholarship providing financial support for Alaska residents under the age of 24.
Alexis Buskirk Memorial Student Book Scholarship	Undergraduate, Graduate	All students	This is a selective scholarship. A scholarship that provides financial assistance for book expenses for students with epilepsy who are enrolled at least part-time.
Barbara Dadd Shaffer Endowed Scholarship	Undergraduate	All students	This is a selective scholarship. An endowed scholarship funded by APU Trustee Emerita Barbara Dadd Shaffer to provide financial support to students.
President’s Forum Endowed Travel Scholarship	Undergraduate	All students	This is a selective scholarship. An endowed scholarship which helps students take part in one of the travel courses offered by the university.
APU/AMU Alumni Association Scholarship	Undergraduate	APU/AMU Alumni	This is a selective scholarship. A scholarship funded by APU and AMU alumni to support members of their families pursuing a degree at the university.
Andrew J. and Cora C. Crow Memorial Endowed Scholarship	Undergraduate	Institute of Business and Public Policy, Institute of Culture and Environment	This is a selective scholarship. An endowed scholarship for full-time students nominated by a Methodist Church within 3 years of their high school graduation with the panhandle of Texas, or female students pursing a degree in business or education.
First National Bank Alaska’s Endowed Early Honors Scholarship	Undergraduate	Early Honors	This is a selective scholarship. An endowed scholarship providing financial support to high school students with financial need enrolled in the Early Honors program.
Leah J. Peterson Early Honors Scholarship	Undergraduate	Early Honors	This is a selective scholarship. A scholarship providing financial support to high school students demonstrating academic merit who are enrolled in the Early Honors program.
Ramona F. Sines Endowed Scholarship	Undergraduate, Graduate	Female Student	This is a selective scholarship. An endowed scholarship for female undergraduate students enrolled full-time and under the age of 26.
Gap Scholarship	Undergraduate	Financial Need	This is a criteria scholarship. A GAP Scholarship is a need-based scholarship for students who do not qualify for a Pell Grant and meet institutional criteria to be set annually by APU.
Promise Tuition Grant	Undergraduate	Financial Need	This is a criteria scholarship. A last-dollar grant to cover remaining tuition for undergraduate students who have the greatest financial need demonstrated by eligibility for a maximum Pell Grant with an SAI (-1500 through 0). Undergraduate students with less than maximum Pell Grant eligibility will be awarded a lesser Promise Tuition Grant to assist with tuition cost. The amount of the lesser Promise Grant will be determined by the student’s SAI. The Promise Tuition Grant is applied after all federal, state and other APU institutional aid is applied.
Laurence Carr Graduate Fellowship	Graduate	Institute of Business and Public Policy	This is a selective scholarship. A scholarship that provides financial assistance to graduate students studying business.
Robert B. Gillam Scholarship	Undergraduate, Graduate	Institute of Business and Public Policy	This is a selective scholarship. A scholarship that provides financial assistance to students studying business with a priority for MBA and finance concentration.
Johnson Scholarship Foundation Indigenous Entrepreneurship Scholarship	Undergraduate	Institute of Business and Public Policy, Alaska Native Student	This is a selective scholarship. Provides financial assistance to Indigenous students studying entrepreneurship or business-related program for an undergraduate degree.
APU Adventure Gap Fund	Undergraduate	Institute of Culture and Environment	This is a selective scholarship. An award that provides financial support for a student enrolled in an outdoor studies program who is actively reducing the gender equity gap in outdoor recreation.
At-Sea Processors Association Endowed Scholarship	Undergraduate	Institute of Culture and Environment	This is a selective scholarship. An endowed scholarship for high performing students who have a desire to work in marine biology or a fisheries-related field in Alaska after graduation.
Cliff Hartman Endowed Teaching Scholarship	Undergraduate	Institute of Culture and Environment	This is a selective scholarship. An endowed merit scholarship for students with a strong interest in teaching and education.
Dasan Marshall Outdoor Studies Adventure Fund	Undergraduate	Institute of Culture and Environment	This is a selective scholarship. An award that provides financial support for an adventure expedition for a student enrolled in an outdoor studies program.
Jane Hartman Endowed Writing Award	Undergraduate	Institute of Culture and Environment	This is a selective scholarship. An endowed merit scholarship for students with a strong interest in literary studies and creative writing.
Jim and Dee Mahaffey Outdoor Studies Scholarship	Undergraduate	Institute of Culture and Environment	This is a selective scholarship. A scholarship for students in an outdoor studies program who demonstrate financial need and have a passion for the outdoor profession.
Kalley Ann Rittman Outdoor Studies Award	Undergraduate	Institute of Culture and Environment	This is a selective scholarship. An award that provides financial support for costs associated with gear and travel for a student enrolled in an outdoor studies program.
Nick and Laura Giles Expedition Scholarship	Undergraduate	Institute of Culture and Environment	This is a selective scholarship. A scholarship that provides financial support to students in the marine and environmental science or outdoor studies programs for lab or travel fees for courses with an outdoor or field component.
Rusty Myers Memorial Scholarship	Undergraduate	Institute of Culture and Environment	This is a selective scholarship. A scholarship for students enrolled full time in an environmental science related program.
Jeanette Brooks Endowed Scholarship	Undergraduate	Institute of Culture and Environment, Alaska Resident	This is a selective scholarship. An endowed scholarship for students for Alaska High School Graduates/AK Transfer students demonstrating financial need and pursuing a degree in K-8 Education, Psychology, or Liberal Studies.
APU Equity in Healthcare	Undergraduate	Institute of Health and Wellness	This is a selective scholarship. A scholarship that provides financial assistance to minority students studying healthcare.
Jim Parsons Memorial Scholarship	Undergraduate	Institute of Health and Wellness	This is a selective scholarship. A scholarship for students studying counseling psychology who demonstrate financial need and are a sophomore or higher.
Dr. Ray Clements and Professor Govind Naidu Endowed Scholarship	Undergraduate	International Students	This is a selective scholarship. An endowed scholarship for international students studying at APU enrolled full time.
Ed Stauber and Robert Pfiel Endowed Athletic Ski Scholarship	Undergraduate, Graduate	Nordic Ski Center	This is a selective scholarship. An endowed scholarship providing financial support for elite skiers at the APU Nordic Ski Center who are enrolled in at least six credit hours.
Jim and Dee Mahaffey Endowed Ski Scholarship	Undergraduate, Graduate	Nordic Ski Center	This is a selective scholarship. An endowed scholarship for elite skiers at the APU Nordic Ski Center who are enrolled in at least six credit hours.
Marion Richter Ski Scholarship	Undergraduate, Graduate	Nordic Ski Center, Female Student	This is a selective scholarship. A scholarship providing financial support to female skiers at the APU Nordic Ski Center.
On-Campus Community	Undergraduate, Graduate	On-Campus Student	This is a criteria scholarship. A scholarship for students living in on-campus housing in recognition of the powerful academic support community created on-campus.
Anchorage Amateur Radio Club Endowed Scholarship	Undergraduate	Institute of Culture and Environment	This is a selective scholarship. An endowed scholarship for full-time students showing promise in science, mathematics, communications radio, electronics, or astronomy.
Wells Fargo Veterans Scholarship	Undergraduate, Graduate	Veteran	This is a selective scholarship. The scholarship is a financial contribution for students with a qualified veteran status pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree and enrolled at least part time.
