Open Boating

Location: Moseley Pool
Description: Come practice whitewater kayaking, packrafting, sea kayaking and stand up paddleboarding skills in a warm pool. Equipment is provided and it’s a great way to meet other local paddling enthusiasts!

Packrafting Safety Clinic
Date: To request a class please email pjdhiggins@alaskapacific.edu
Time: 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Location: APU and Eagle River, location may change depending on conditions.
Description: This course teaches basic strokes, rescues, river running strategy, safety, and how to find the appropriate river based on conditions and the group’s skill level. Instructors for this course are certified by the American Canoe Association (ACA) for whitewater and swift water instruction.

Rolling Clinics
Date: Thursdays upon request
Time: 7:30 – 9 p.m.
Location: Moseley Pool
Description: Learning how to roll is fun when you are under the guidance of a certified instructor in the warm saltwater pool at Alaska Pacific University. Whether you are a sea kayaker, packrafter, or whitewater kayaker, this clinic goes through a progression to keep you comfortable when learning to roll. If you already have a roll, this clinic can fine-tune your roll to make it effortless or you can learn new rolls like offside, hand roll, or back deck roll.
Equipment: Equipment is included. Please bring your own swim attire.

Sea Kayak Rescue Clinics
Date: Thursdays upon request
Time: 7:30 – 9 p.m.
Location: Moseley Pool
Description: This is a great course for beginner to intermediate paddlers who want to learn the basics of rescues or for intermediate paddlers to brush up on their skills. This course teaches how to get in and out of the boat using various methods of self-rescue and companion-rescue. This course is also an introduction of how to paddle safely in the ocean environment of Alaska. Instructors for this course are certified instructors through the American Canoe Association in Coastal Kayaking.
Equipment: Equipment is included in this course. Please bring your own swim attire.
