Rolling Clinics
Date: Wednesdays
Time: 7:30-9:00 p.m.
Location: Moseley Pool
Description: Learning how to roll is fun when you are under the guidance of a certified instructor in the warm saltwater pool at Alaska Pacific University. Whether you are a sea kayaker, pack rafter, or whitewater kayaker, this clinic goes through a progression to keep you comfortable when learning to roll. If you already have a roll, this clinic can fine-tune your roll to make it effortless or you can learn new rolls like offside, hand roll, or back deck roll.
Equipment: Equipment is included. Please bring your own swim attire.

Sea Kayak Rescue Clinics
Date: Wednesdays
Time: 7:30-9:00 p.m.
Location: Moseley Pool
Description: This is a great course for beginner to intermediate paddlers who want to learn the basics of rescues or for intermediate paddlers to brush up on their skills. This course teaches how to get in and out of the boat using various methods of self-rescue and companion rescue. This course is also an introduction to how to paddle safely in the ocean environment of Alaska. Instructors for this course are certified instructors through the American Canoe Association in Coastal Kayaking.
Equipment: Equipment is included in this course. Please bring your swim attire.

Open Boating: Stand Up Paddleboarding, Sea Kayaks, Whitewater Kayaks, Packrafts
Date: Thursdays
Time: 7:30-9:00 p.m.
Location: Moseley Pool
Description: “I can’t wait to flop like a fish!” – Lou Mei Gutsch
Enjoy the pool in a variety of crafts like sea kayaks, stand-up paddleboards, and whitewater kayaks. The Moseley pool is a warm saltwater pool and a wonderful place to try something new or relax while floating around. This informal clinic gives you the chance to try new boats or if you would like to learn some techniques or tricks an instructor will be there to give pointers.
What to Bring: Swimming attire and rash guards can be nice if you get cold.
Cost: $20
Whitewater Kayaking Clinics
Date: TBD
Time: 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
Location: Goose Lake and the river is dependent upon conditions, but Eagle River is the river that is generally used.
Prerequisite: A rolling class is required before taking this course. The more time you spend in the pool, the better the success is on the river. The roll is not required, but the ability to comfortably wet exit is.
Course Duration: 2 days
Description: Whitewater Kayaking is a fun way to see a part of Alaska most people don’t see! Learn basic strokes, rescues, and how to make it down the river with style. All of the instructors that teach this course are certified with the American Canoe Association as whitewater kayaking and swift water rescue instructors.
What to Bring: Swimming attire and rash guards can be nice if you get cold.
Cost: $300 for the course and $50 for rental equipment. If you are an Alaska Pacific University student, contact op@alaskapacific.edu for student pricing.

- Event sign-up is on a first-come, first-serve basis.
- If the event requires payment, you must pay at the time of registration, otherwise, you will be put on the waitlist.
- Once an event or trip is full, you will be added to the trip waitlist and contacted if an opening becomes available.
- Refunds will only be given if someone else can fill the open spot or given special circumstances at the discretion of the Outdoor Program Coordinator
- Participation in any of our high-risk trips or clinics requires health insurance and you must be able to provide your health insurance policy number at the pre-trip meeting.
