Camp Kellogg at Alaska Pacific University’s Kellogg Campus in Palmer! We have four weeks of adventure, science, creative arts, farm, and nature camps planned with various options for all ages.  We’ve increased our offerings in hopes of accommodating more campers who are eager for summer fun and learning at Camp Kellogg! Enroll in one week or for all four.  We’re excited to welcome you to our outdoor program of exploration, discovery, and play!

Camp Kellogg offers a unique summer experience each June for kids and teens ages 5-17. With a range of adventure, science, creative arts, farm, and nature camps, the program combines fun with hands-on learning in an outdoor setting. Whether your child attends for one week or the entire month, each session is designed to spark curiosity, encourage personal growth, and deepen their connection to nature through exploration and play.

Aligned with the values of Alaska Pacific University, Camp Kellogg emphasizes community, nature, and lifelong learning. Each week centers around a specific theme, fostering values that shape campers’ experiences during the summer and beyond:

Spruce Campers: Ages 5-7

Theme: Winged Wonders
Come discover the amazing birds of Alaska! Campers will learn all about feathers, eggs, and nests, and see how birds hunt and fly. With fun outdoor games and hands-on activities, we’ll explore the wild world of Alaska’s birds and how they live! Explore Alaska’s Birds!

Birch Campers: Ages 6-8

Theme: Branching Out: Inspired Art Exploration
Campers will step into the forest with artists’ eyes, exploring Alaska’s trees through touch, observation, and creative expression. Through hands-on artmaking with natural and recycled materials, guided activities invite children to notice texture, color, and form in the forest, then translate those discoveries into creative work. This full sensory art experience encourages curiosity, creativity, and a deeper connection to the natural world.

Hemlock Campers: Ages 6-8

Theme: Adventure Laboratory
Grab your goggles for a journey into the hows and whys behind some of the most wacky, adventurous, and extreme experiments you’ve ever seen. From explosive chemical reactions to gravity-defying physics challenges, every day will be filled with hands-on exploration and discovery.

Crab Apple Campers: Ages 8-11

Theme: Ag-Venture
This hands-on Alaskan Ag-Venture experience will immerse campers in the serenity and thrill of nature. As they explore the farthest reaches of Kellogg Campus, they’ll forage and harvest farm-grown ingredients to create trail snacks. Along the way, campers will discover the wonders of sustainable farming and work together on fun team-building activities. It’s an adventure that blends outdoor exploration, food, and teamwork to create lasting memories!

Cottonwood Campers: Ages 9-13

Theme: Battle of the Big 5
A week of challenges of body, mind, and creativity: orienteering, wayfinding, puzzles, obstacle courses, and so many games! This week of team building is sure to have campers developing strategic skills while making lasting friendships!

Aspen Campers: Ages 13-17

Theme: Leader in Training – Language of Leadership
What does it sound/look/feel like to be a good leader? Effective leadership is multifaceted: what does it sound/look/feel like to guide, empower, and inspire others? Through hands-on learning experiences, dynamic teambuilding activities, and engaging discussions, participants will become more familiar with the language of leadership and use their understandings to forge connections at Camp Kellogg and beyond.

Denali Campers: Ages 5-7

Theme: Forest Guest are Best
Dive deep into local ecology by unraveling the mysteries of mushrooms, fungi, and diverse habitats. From birdwatching to animal tracking, every day promises exciting discoveries. Garden care and plant observation will round out the dirty fun!

Kenai Campers: Ages 6-8

Theme: Bushcraft & Wilderness Skills
An immersive journey into the heart of nature, where campers will learn essential bushcraft and wilderness skills while honing their survival instincts. Campers will thrive in nature, gaining confidence and resilience with each new skill mastered.

Katmai Campers: Ages 6-8

Theme: Dandelion Delights
Explore the wonders of dandelions as you discover plant parts while foraging, cooking, and creating vibrant crafts with them. Dive into the history and culture of dandelions and use them to make unique consumable goods. And of course, we’ll craft beautiful dandelion chains, garlands, crowns, and more! It’s a week of nature, creativity, and discovery!

Lake Clark Campers: Ages 8-11

Theme: Magic Tricks with Physics
Unravel the mysteries behind mind-bending illusions as campers dive into games, races, and thrilling magic tricks to uncover the science behind every mesmerizing moment of the extraordinary and unexpected laws of physics.  

Glacier Bay Campers: Ages 8-12

Theme: The Musk Ox Farm OXperience– Husbandry
Ever wonder what it takes to care for a musk ox? Spend a week at the farm connecting with these amazing Arctic animals. Discover what goes into their care, from feeding, to health checks, and more. Along the way you’ll also learn why it’s vital to teach the world about these special creatures.
***Special notes about this camp: This camp will be hosted both at Kellogg Campus and The Musk Ox Farm. Campers will be dropped off and pick up at Kellogg and transported via APU van to and from The Musk Ox Farm. Parents/Guardians enrolling their children in this camp will need to sign an additional transportation permission slip.

Wrangell Campers: Ages 9-13

Campers will unleash their creativity through writing, storytelling, theatre games, and nature-based prop construction, honing their stagecraft skills along the way. Gates of the Arctic LIT: Ages 13-17

This week, participants will explore the art of harmonizing leadership styles to sustain collaborative learning. From understanding when to take charge to knowing when to step back and empower others, LITs will learn practical strategies for navigating the potential complexities of leadership in outdoor settings. Yukon Campers: Ages 5-7

Susitna Campers: Ages 6-8

Theme: Edible Education– Fun with Farm & Food
Budding farmers and chefs will dig into the world of soil, seeds, and plants, discovering how the earth helps them grow. They’ll harvest fresh ingredients from the farm garden and use them to create tasty, farm-to-table delights. It’s a hands-on, full sensory adventure that blends the science of soil with the chemistry of cooking!

Knik Campers: Ages 6-8

Theme: Fairy Gardens & Gnome Homes
A week-long whimsical adventure where campers will immerse themselves in the enchanting realms of fairy gardens and gnome homes. Combining elements of soil science, gardening, storytelling, and nature crafts, this camp promises an unforgettable experience filled with imagination and wonder.

Kuskokwim Campers: Ages 8-11

Get ready for a wild journey into the world of plants, soil, seeds, and the secret life of pollinators! Copper Campers: Ages 9-13

Get ready to move, listen, and see like animals in this action-packed camp! Through hide-and-seek, obstacle courses, and quiet walking techniques, young ninjas will develop agility, stealth, and sensory awareness. Learn how animals use their senses to survive while practicing mindfulness and focusing on nature. It’s time to become a Nature Ninja!

Brooks Campers: Ages 6-8

Theme: Planet Pioneers
Embark on a week of hands-on, immersive experience where the intricacies of nature are revealed and explored with the Planet Pioneers! Campers will embrace their inner environmental scientists as they explore Earth’s ecosystems to invent their own sustainable planet along with the imaginary plants and animals that live there. 

Saint Elias Campers: Ages 6-8

Theme: Ripple Effect: The Science of Water, Soil & Tiny Creatures
In this hands-on week, campers will uncover the mysteries of water, explore the world of soil science, and discover the hidden lives of invertebrates and microscopic creatures. Through creek play, garden digs, and experiments, they’ll learn how water, soil, and tiny organisms interact to shape the environment around us. It’s a week of exploration and discovery in the natural world.

Chugach Campers: Ages 8-12

Theme: The Spring Creek Farm Experience
Pull on your garden gloves and jump into a week side by side with the Spring Creek Farm crew, harvesting and tasting Alaskan grown vegetables on their journey from seed to farm stand.   

Aleutian Campers: Ages 9-13

Theme: The Heart of Homesteading
Campers will delve into the timeless art of homesteading as they learn the secrets of sustainable living, practiced by those who came before us. They’ll discover the joy of planting and harvesting gardens, food preservation methods, butter churning & bread making, foraging, building bird feeders, and creating natural dyes.

Talkeetnas LIT: Ages 13-17

What happens at camp before the campers arrive? This week, LITs will peel back the curtain and explore the behind-the-scenes world of Camp Kellogg! Participants will enter the world of camp operations by exploring the planning, coordination, and logistics involved in creating an unforgettable camp experience. Through organizing programs and activities, LITs will gain valuable insights into what it means to be on camp staff, gaining a deeper appreciation for the dedication and teamwork required to make camp magic happen!
