Become a wilderness first responder today!

Spring 2026 Wilderness First Responder (WFR) and Wilderness EMT (WEMT) Hybrid Courses

This is a two-part hybrid course, April 26th-30th; certification is through the Wilderness Medicine Training Center International. Part 1 is online while Part 2 is held in person. Enrollment in Part 2 is limited, so register early.

You must complete part 1 before attending the in-person portion of the course. It is highly recommended that you start the online portion as soon as possible. 

To register for the course, follow this link. After you have registered, call 907-564-8614 to pay for the course and reserve your spot. Due to limited space in the course and the time required to complete the online testing, there are no refunds. After you have reserved your spot in the course, you can pick up your Wilderness Medicine Handbook at the gym and rock wall in the Atwood Building, 4455 University Dr., Anchorage, AK 99508. The book is essential in both the online and in-person portions of the course. If you need the book shipped, there will be an additional $10 charge.

This is a two-part hybrid course, May 2nd-3rd; certification is through the Wilderness Medicine Training Center International. Part 1 is online while Part 2 is held in person. Enrollment in Part 2 is limited; so register early.

APU Gear Swap


The APU Gear Swap is back! The sale is Saturday April 4th from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. at APU’s Moseley Sport Center – 4400 University Drive, Anchorage, AK. The sale is a fundraiser for the APU outdoor gear room which supplies skiing, hiking, climbing, biking, and boating gear for student use and classes. APU takes a 15% commission and does the selling for you.

Check in your gear Friday April 3rd from 4:30-7 p.m. and again Saturday April 4th from 8-9 a.m. at Moseley. Any items not sold can either be picked up by 2pm on Saturday April 4th, or donated to APU.

Steps to sell items:

  1. Make an account.
  2. Enter your items including your price for each item.
  3. Print off the bar code tag for each item.
  4. Tape the bar code label onto the item with clear packing tape.
  5. Bring your items to APU’s Moseley Sport Center Friday, April 3rd 4:30-7 p.m. or Saturday, April 4th 8-9 a.m.
  6. Check in with the student staff and get your items displayed for sale.
  7. Go enjoy the rest of your day, or stick around and check out other gear!
  8. Pick up your leftover items (if any) by 2 p.m. Saturday, April 4th.
