Kellogg FIELD School

Providing home-schooled children with an interdisciplinary, community-centered, social experience through environmental education. Environmental education is more than just science; it combines all elements of natural and cultural history with critical thinking and problem-solving skills. FIELD School is an outdoor-based enrichment program.

Kellogg FIELD School serves homeschool students ages 5-14, offering an educational experience that explores science, culture, and community through the study of the natural world.

Its environmental education program fosters enjoyment, awareness, knowledge, and skills needed to develop a healthy quality of life in a healthy environment. By promoting stewardship, the school cultivates community members who are sensitive to the environment, understand ecological concepts, and have problem-solving skills to address environmental challenges. A key part of this mission is integrating an understanding of Alaska’s diverse cultures.

The curriculum for each session is designed around specific themes, emphasizing place-based learning and experiential education that connects students to the natural world in meaningful ways.

Instructors at Kellogg FIELD School are graduate students from Alaska Pacific University’s Master of Science in Outdoor and Environmental Education program.

FIELD School serves as a dynamic learning laboratory where graduate students apply their academic knowledge in real-world settings. Through hands-on learning, they gain valuable teaching experience while fostering environmental stewardship in the next generation. This collaborative approach creates a rich educational experience for both instructors and students, supporting the development of a sustainable, healthy community.
